Portuguese Photographer Uses Forced Perspective Photography to Create Playful Images

Now here is a photographer with dollops of imagination. He is Hugo Suíssas, who regales his viewers with the power of perspective in playful compositions. For this imaginative artist, the world is like a visual playground, as is evident from all his photographic creations.

This Lisbon-based self-taught photographer uses forced perspective photography to create playful images with unique stories. He proves that a photo can be made much more interesting by infusing a different perspective. However, it is his unique sense of visualization that makes his creations stand out.

Suíssas incorporates a variety of props in his photos. These props can range from highlighters, can of deodorant, clothes iron, clothes hangar, bulb, spoon, key, and anything he can lay his hands on! It is his creative usage that gives a totally different meaning to the photograph, delighting his viewers. Every photograph has a different idea and a story to tell.

This amazing Portuguese photographer shares his inspiration with boredpanda.com, “What inspires me in life as an artist is to know that art and ideas are able to produce miracles. I believe that creativity can be magic and it can help great challenges in the world. My head doesn’t know what the word ‘stop’ means, and since the world never stops, I’d say that it’s a great combination. I’m a simple guy, I like simplicity and simple life.”

Suíssas took up magic as a hobby when he was a kid. Since magic and perspective are similar as both are an illusion, he started using perspective in his photos. He was struck by the realization that this was a great technique to convey his ideas and elicit reactions from the viewers. Initially, he used to improvise without giving it much thought, but as he turned professional, he goes deeper into the process and now plans every pixel, leaving nothing to chance.

Suíssas uses his mobile phone to capture all his photos and works on them in Photoshop. He ensures that his creations are both impactful and fresh. His latest project is ‘Vaccine Towers’ that is going viral at the moment. This project is a global awareness campaign to highlight the importance of Covid vaccination.

An alumnus of IADE-Creative University, Lisbon, Portugal, Suíssas is presently the Art Director at Proximity. He was former Director de Arte both at O Escritório and VMLY&R. He lives in Lisbon, Portugal. He has over 122,000 followers on Instagram alone.
