Filipino Makeup Artist Uses Face as Canvas for Blending into the Background

It is not only the soldiers who are adept in the art of camouflage, some artists follow this art too. Goldie Yabes is one such visual artist, who loves to merge into her surroundings by painting her face the same as the background.

This Filipino artist, who is based in Baguio City, the Philippines, was always interested in art and started with painting shoes. However, it was the Covid lockdown that gave her the idea to do something different and unique. She took up makeup art, made her face her new canvas, and started painting it. Needless to say, her makeup illusion art is enjoyed by one and all and her YouTube tutorials go viral in no time.

However, makeup illusion art is not as easy as it seems. A case in point is the ‘One with Nature’ artwork that Yates created. For this, she had to apply two layers of primer just to prevent her skin from getting irritated. The end result was a stunning view of the beautiful sky and fields of Floridablanca in Pampanga, the Philippines.

One of her Halloween contents was created outside the haunted Laperal House located in her city. As she was putting makeup on her face, she felt something pass behind her but she saw nothing. Once she returned home, she felt pain in her back and found scratch marks there. How this happened, she really doesn’t know. This was a scary paranormal experience for her.

For coloring her face, Yates mixes poster colors with makeup and then applies it in a creative way to blend into the background. It takes her anywhere from two to six hours to finish her work, depending upon its complexity. Her makeup transformation is always truly stunning. She regularly posts her makeup videos on YouTube.
