Artist Uses Melted Chocolate To Create Spectacular Portraits

There are many cake artists in the world who decorate their cakes in stunning designs. However, this Japanese artist doesn’t require a cake but makes stunning portraits with melted chocolate using only her fingers. Her name is Norico Shioguchi.

If you’re wondering about what does Norico create her portraits, it’s plates and acrylic panels. This allows her to clean her artwork as many times as she wants in order to improve it.

She shares her choice of subjects on catersnews.com,

“I draw portraits, especially for brides and grooms, for the opening movies for their weddings. I also do chocolate art live paintings at events, where we eat the sweets, I’ve drawn and decorated, with the audiences at the end of the performance.”

This cake artist from Fukuoka, Japan, started creating portraits in chocolate just three years ago. And her first one was of herself and her husband for her own wedding! She did this only to please her guests. However, when she posted her portrait on her Instagram page, it not only became an instant hit, but she also started getting orders! She was flooded with requests for weddings, birthdays, and even corporate events.

The surprising part is Norico has had no formal training in art, nor does she have a cake workshop from where she does her portraits. She uses her living room for the same. However, creating a portrait in the exact likeness of the person is not easy, the reason why she takes three to four hours to complete one portrait. She’s regularly invited for live events to showcase portrait making.

This self-taught cake artist gets her ideas from photos and paintings. And her range is really amazing. From portraits of Japanese celebrities and newlyweds to popular cartoon characters and abstract geometric motifs, she has mastered them all. She’s ever keen to experiment and uses her ‘canvas’ several times after cleaning it to create her incredible art.

Norico has over 154,000 fans on Instagram alone. She says about her art on her Instagram page, “Art that will last a lifetime in the hearts of those who see it.” She undertakes commission work too.
