If you think you’ve seen everything that artists do with food, think again! Here’s a Russian-born visual artist, Helga Stentzel, who has given a new slant to food art.
That Helga has a way of creating food art in a unique way is evident from her numerous works involving various eatables. And she not only uses photographs of what she creates out of food that she posts on the social media but also a wide range of other media, such as illustrations, videos and stop motion animation of her food art.
Helga, currently based in London, UK, is an alumnus of St. Martins. She went on to realize her talent as an artist by becoming the Art Director of an advertising agency. It’s here that she learned the basics of branding, strategic thinking, and marketing. The skill set acquired here is what is helping her in creating amazing content for some of the leading brands on social media, as also in running her own mini-blog.
Using a variety of different ingredients, Helga brings together two of the greatest loves of people in her art – food and animals. She creates adorable animals from common foods, enhancing them with her funny illustrations. These impressive creations that look so delicious are actually too cute to eat.
Helga’s ideas look easy but require dollops of imagination and visualization. The end result always puts a smile on your face. It’s not only her artistic skills but her knowledge of foods from various regions that is most awe-inspiring. She says about foods, “…while flavors and textures vary from region to region, the basic ingredients of the dishes are very similar. It’s those staples that fascinate me most.”
Turning this fascination into food art is something incredible. Little wonder she enjoys a fan following of over 100,000 on Instagram alone.
