New to Funko Pop? Well, Funko Inc. is an American company that manufactures pop culture collectibles, such as vinyl figurines and bobbleheads. So cute and charming are these figurines that one gets tempted to own each and every one of them.
So was the case with Dusty Strutton. This 34-year-old was so enamored of these collectibles that he has been on a collecting spree for the last five years, building a sizeable collection in the process. However, he didn’t stop at that but went on to photograph and showcase them on Instagram. His interest in photography came in real handy to display his works online.
It was in 2014 when Strutton became a Funko fan and Pops! was the one that impressed him the most, due to its simple, but detailed design. His first Pop! that he got from a local mall was Kratos from the ‘God of War’.
The idea of photographing his collection came to Strutton about a year ago. He was always interested in photography and these collectibles not only gave him a reason to brush up his hobby but also sparked his creativity. All his compositions are meticulously planned. He finds the best locations for each figure, sets up dioramas, and shoots.
Strutton, in an interview with funko.com, says, “Nothing quite beats the feeling of getting a new Pop! and knowing exactly the shot I want to get with it.” Of course, it’s his creative mind that tells him what’d make a good shot. At times, inspiration hits him when he’s getting no real ideas.
The subjects close to Strutton’s heart are characters from ‘Star Wars’, ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Doctor Who’. By his own admission, he’s a fan of anything science fiction or fantasy.
