If you’ve got a green thumb and are into gardening, there’s every chance you’re familiar with one of the most beautiful and delicate flowers in the world…yes, the tulip. There are about 100 species of this flower, which are native to Eurasia from where they’ve spread to many other countries of the world.
Today, tulips have their own festivals in countries, such as Australia, Canada, England, India, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the US, and many others. In fact, the Netherlands is the world’s top producer of commercial tulip plants, exporting a whopping three billion bulbs annually. There’s hardly any doubt these flowers are among the most popular of all garden plants.
However, of all the tulip varieties there’s one that’s most stunning to look at. It’s the mesmerizing Ice Cream Tulip. This late-flowering tulip with deep pink blooms, crowned by a creamy white top is truly unique. While other tulips are beautiful to look at, this tulip looks delicious, what with its white, cream, or yellow ‘ice cream scoop’ on the top!
And it’s not only the ‘ice cream scoop’ of this flower that makes it different from others but also its number of petals. A normal tulip has six petals, whereas this one has at least twice the amount…making it twice as beautiful. Little wonder this rare and unique flower has become a must-have for flower growers.
Not surprisingly, this flower has been given the botanical name of Tulipa Ice Cream. It blooms during the spring months, in late April and early May and grows to a height of 10 to 24 inches. It requires full sun and partial shade. When flowering, the flower comes out pink from which emerges the white or creamy flower, giving it the ‘ice cream scoop’ look. The flower is the bell- or funnel-shaped. The best part is, this variety stays nice and short and its blooms last for a long time.
So, if you want something delicious growing in your garden, forget vegetables and fruits, plant delectable-looking Ice Cream Tulip. It’s certain to become the envy of your neighborhood!
