Will Smith’s Daughter Willow Firmly Establishes Herself in the Music World

It is usual for children of actor parents to follow in their parent’s footsteps and become actors. But there are exceptions. Take Willow Camille Reign Smith, for instance, daughter of famous actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who instead of becoming an actor chose singing and soon established herself in the music world.

It is not that Willow did not try her hand in the movies. In fact, she made her acting debut with ‘I Am Legend along with her father and acted in ‘Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. She also did the voiceover for young Gloria, the hippo, in ‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’, but her heart lay elsewhere. It was music that attracted her the most and in no time, she was making waves in the music world.

Willow started her music with the platinum-certified single ‘Whip My Hair’ which hit number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100

Willow started her music with the platinum-certified single ‘Whip My Hair’ which hit number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two in the UK, bagging the ‘Video of the Year at BET Awards of 2011. She went on to sign Jay-Z’s record label ‘Roc Nation’; the youngest artist to do so. Her single ‘21st Century Girl’ was released under this banner the following year after she performed it on the Oprah Winfrey show.

It was not long before Willow cut her own album called ‘Ardipithecus’. It’s single, ‘Wait a Minute’, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. After this, she released three more albums – ‘The 1st’, ‘Willow’ and ‘Lately I Feel Everything. The single ‘Transparent Soul’ in the latter album was certified gold in the US. Another single of hers, ‘Meet Me at Our Spot’, in the album ‘The Anxiety’, jointly put together by her and Tyler Cole, earned a top 40 entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

It was not music alone for Willow, she also began co-hosting the Facebook Watch talk show ‘Red Table Talk’ that bagged two NAACP Image Awards and two Daytime Emmy Award nominations. Besides this, she also won a Young Artist Award and MTV Video Music Award.

However, it was not all bed of roses for Willow in the music world. Her collaboration with Nicki Minaj called ‘Fireball’ ended up a commercial failure missing hitting any chart in the music market, except being placed at number 121 on the US R&B chart.

However, Willow’s popularity remains on the upswing. She enjoys a mind-boggling following of over 10 million fans on Instagram alone.
