Filipino Artist Uses Masking Tape to Create Incredible Portraits of Celebrities

Artists use many tools and techniques for creating art. But, using masking tape is something that is as unique as it gets. Noel Abad Quidlat Jr. does just that. His works using masking tapes are trending on the social media and how!

This 21-year-old Filipino, who hails from Antipolo City, Philippines, started creating content in 2020 and posted it on TikTok. His initial works included simple sketches of Pokémon, after which he graduated to making more complex creations using masking tape. Although he tried his hand at other styles, it is his masking tape creations that wow the netizens. It comes as no surprise that this has gained him instant recognition.

Noel makes incredible portraits of celebrities and well-known personalities using masking tape. He meticulously cuts the tape in the shape of facial parts of the chosen celebrity and sticks them on glass canvas; the result is simply amazing. His works include the portraits of Johnny Depp, Taylor Swift, Jimin of the BTS fame, Snoop Dog, and even groups like BLACKPINK, and many more.

Noel shares what motivates and inspires him on https://balita-net-ph, “What motivates me the most is that my fans are always there to support whether even I do ‘not that good art’. And this is also one of the reasons why we make money, maybe I can also say that it is an effective motivator.” (As translated by Google).

International artists, such as Tom Holland, the American visual artist, are all praise for his work. But today, Noel himself is an inspiration for others, who desire to follow in his footsteps. He has this to say to the beginners, “…no one starts well right away, (go) step by step (and) don’t give up.” At the last count, he had 2.4 million followers on TikTok and 112,000 on Instagram.
