Just imagine, it’s your little girl’s birthday and you’ve chosen a theme, say of Ariel, the little mermaid. You’ve decorated the hall with this theme and ordered the cake adorned with this cute mermaid. In addition, you’ve bought your daughter a pretty birthday dress on the same theme with a tiara to go with it. But, what about her shoes? Of course, you’ve no choice, but to simply match the color of the theme with the shoes.
Not anymore! Now you can buy shoes with Ariel design on them or anything you can think of that can be rendered in brush and paint. Meet Shannon, who is making waves with her customized Shanny’s Shoes that display all kinds of drawings, paintings, calligraphy and what have you.
Shannon made her first pair of shoes in 2012 and her shoe art was roundly appreciated, so much so, that her friends and family began requesting her to design and paint shoes for them. The thought of taking this up professionally hadn’t crossed her mind since it was only a hobby. But, when she saw people appreciate her work, it made her convert her hobby into a small business.
Being a senior business major at Texas A&M University came in handy to run her business of high-quality custom shoes. She jokes about the influence of her university on her work, saying “This explains the amount of Aggie shoes in my shop!”, referring to Texas A&M Aggies football.
Shannon was always passionate about drawing ever since she could hold a pen. She followed her passion and learned classical art. However, she wanted to do something different and shoes caught her imagination, since this portrayed wearable art. Making customized shoes also gave her an opportunity to showcase the personality and style of the wearer.
Shannon’s customized shoes are making waves on the internet and her Etsy shop is going great guns. If you think this is just shop talk, just visit her Etsy page and you’re most likely to find the message: “Shop is currently closed to fulfill orders! Will announce re-opening on the Instagram account so follow along there for updates!” She’s really going great guns!
