You must have seen photographs that include photos juxtaposed with sceneries in the background. However, you may not have seen cups juxtaposed with sceneries that depict the exact scene!
This is what Vitalia Boyko, an expert cup artist, does. And this is, by far, the most challenging form of art. This is probably how it goes: first, she gets herself photographed in various poses with different natural backdrops; then she paints a cup exactly depicting the scene along with herself in it; she then places the painted cup in that very scene and gets the two photographed together. Sounds complicated? It becomes clear once you see her works.
Boyko, hailing from Odessa, Ukraine, seems to be a born artist. If her miniature paintings on what she calls ‘art cups’ is any indication, she has not only got an aesthetic colour sense, but also a keen eye for details. Little wonder, she enjoys a fan following of over 93,000 on Instagram.
According to Boyko, her creative juices start flowing at midnight. This is when she paints her art cups. Says she, “I begin to deal with creativity only by midnight. And early morning I am ready to run to the sea to embody my night’s efforts.”
Boyko gets philosophical about her hobby and likens it to a relationship. She explains, “It seems to me that a person has some relationship with his hobby. These relations pass their stages of development, as well as relations with the partner. At the first stage, there’s euphoria, passion, excitement, a sense of novelty and inspiration. Then there’s crisis, questions, doubts and the shadows of illusion begin to fall. But, eventually one has to accept it with all the complexities and only then can you start to love unconditionally.”
Boyko not only snaps delightful pictures of her art cups figuring in the scene depicted on the cup but also displays her innate knowledge of colours. In one of her works, she is wearing a red dress and a red headband and is sitting among red flowers. In her write-up, she explains, “Red colour represents love, power, will to victory, movement, energy. Often it is chosen by people with leadership qualities. Red symbolizes passion, but is also associated with aggression, blood, war….”
Although Boyko reveals almost nothing about herself on the internet, we gather from her write-ups that she is married and it is actually her husband who helps her with her get up and snaps her picture with her art cups!
