This artist can surely give architects a run for their money in terms of artwork. She is a Japanese artist Emi Nakajima, who is currently based in Thailand. Her drawings of famous buildings around the world are so accurate that they can provide all the architectural details.
Nakajima describes herself as a ‘dream traveler’ since she loves to capture iconic buildings on paper from the world over. For her, simple buildings will not do, she prefers complicated architecture, such as that of medieval churches and Gothic cathedrals of France, Italy, and Spain. She has also drawn London’s landmark, the Big Ben, and Wat Rong Khun or the White Temple of Thailand, besides others.
Nakajima has an uncanny ability to scale her sketches up or down. Some drawings are not bigger than her hand, while others take big sheets of paper. Although she uses a black Micron pen for most of her drawings, she also experiments with colored pencils and paints to give a touch of color to her buildings.
Such intricate work not only requires a steady hand but oodles of patience too and Nakajima possesses both in dollops. Some of the details she includes are so fine that they are difficult to spot with the naked eye. Little wonder her drawings take one’s breath away.
Nakajima belongs to Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture of Japan, and is currently based in Phayao, a city in northern Thailand. She attended Montfort College. A viewership of over 43,000 on Instagram is testimony to the growing popularity of her artwork.
