If you’re familiar with crochet, you’d know how intricate this art is, what with interlocking loops of yarn, thread, strands and other materials done by means of a crochet hook. The reason why crochet pieces are usually smaller in size. However, Stephanie Pokorny’s size really doesn’t matter. This amazing crochet artist makes full crochet dresses!
Pokorny, who names her crochet website – Crochetverse – does all her crochet work in freehand. Her works include Halloween costumes, those from classic movies of the 80s and other movie characters and toys that are trending. Her previous creations include Predator, ET, Smurfs, Pennywise the Clown, Harry Potter and ‘Mickey Mouse Pizza’.
This 43-year-old mother from Cleveland, Ohio has been crocheting since she was 16, thanks her grandma, who taught her the art. So good was she in crocheting that creating costumes became her passion that she continues to date. And it’s not an easy job. Each of her Halloween costumes takes anything between 25 to 40 hours. She’s able to complete them over the course of about two weeks.
Pokorny’s motivation is her kids, who choose a costume every year for her to crochet. The excitement of a new costume on the faces of her little ones is something she cherishes. This is exactly how she, as a child, used to get excited, when her mother crocheted one for her.
Pokorny puts the details of the character being crocheted on the forehead and on the top of the head so that the details can be viewed by others without obstructing the view of the wearer. Being fully crocheted, these costumes are excellent insulators and keep the kids warm and cozy in snowy conditions.
You can view Pokorny’s works on the internet and several social media platforms, such as Instagram, where she enjoys a readership of over 17,000.
