Harold Roellinger is a 26-year-old French artist, who draws cartoons among other things. If you’re wondering, what’s the big deal, many other artists do the same thing, here’s the difference. He merges two cartoon characters into one with such expertise that the viewers get literally awestruck.
It comes as no surprise that Roellinger started drawing at a young age of 10. He attended the renowned Lycée Lavoisier, a public school in Paris, France, that’s not only famous for its setting, but also for the quality of teaching it offers. However, he never got a chance to enroll in an art school.
Not having any formal art training, Roellinger pursued his passion by practicing manga drawings. Yes, the same found in manga comics created in Japan in the Japanese language. Incidentally, the term ‘manga’ is a Japanese word that describes both comics and cartooning. In addition, this artist taught himself shading and drawing human anatomy.
The fire of his passion kept burning and got stoked when he reached the age of 19. It was then that he opened his first Facebook page and put up his work. In no time, his page was inundated with viewers, who appreciated his unique renderings and became his ardent fans.
It seems that Roellinger was not satisfied with drawing only portraits, caricatures, and other things. He wanted to do something different. It was in 2016 that he hit upon the idea of merging two characters into one. The experiment proved a runaway success. And he started devoting full time to this form.
Roellinger’s merged characters immediately caught the attention of online viewers. His beautiful renderings include mixing Sonic, the Hedgehog (manga), and Marvel’s Captain America; Toy Story character, Woody, and DC Comics, Superman; Nintendo’s Mario toy character and Marvel’s Thor; a Japanese anime character, Dragon Ball Z, and Marvel’s Iron Man; Anna, a character from Disney’s ‘Frozen’ movie, and Darth Vader from the ‘Star Wars’ series; and many more.
Although Roellinger’s merged characters came much after his other notable works, it’s these that are catching the fancy of his followers.
