It seems promoting tourism using glossy pictures of tourist destinations is passé, simply because such promotions have become predictable and don’t elicit awe and motivate people to visit. Tom Parson created a new entity and introduced them in such glossy pics. Whether he did it to promote tourism for various countries or simply to document the adventures of this miniature plastic man is debatable, but we suspect it has something to do with promoting tourism.
Parson named this new entity the Lego backpacker. Introduced two years back, this plastic miniature has made a comeback after two years, after exploring Dubai and undertaking an epic worldwide adventure. His explorations began in Melbourne, Australia some eight months ago. Since then, he has visited more than 20 countries. He’s been seen in France, Italy, Belgium, England, Ireland, Spain, China, Russia, and Norway. This time this crazy traveler introduces us to the beauty of New Zealand.
Traveling in his Lego van, this adorable Lego backpacker is shown road tripping to exotic places, the best that New Zealand has to offer. He’s depicted doing all kinds of fun things from swimming under waterfalls, to relaxing in hot pools to spotting dolphins and even enjoying Christmas on the beach!
We strongly suspect that the New Zealand tourist department is showcasing the country through this diminutive Lego backpacker to attract potential tourists. And this plastic pal fits right into New Zealand’s tourism slogan too, that goes ‘100% Pure New Zealand’.
The Lego buddy visits all the exotic locales of New Zealand. He flies to Auckland and undertakes adventures through the Auckland regional parks. He goes on a boat ride around Auckland Harbor. He’s seen watching the sunset at the Wanaka tree, enjoying the incredible Cathedral Cove in the Coromandel, paddling through an inviting hot pool in Rotorua and the like.
Parson has snapped his Lego backpacker in various situations in various places in New Zealand, such as Whangarei, Colville, Bay of Islands, Christchurch, Canterbury, Waikato waterfalls, Hanua waterfalls, Bridal Falls – the tallest in the country, Northland, North Island, Raglan, Wellington, Queenstown, Cardrona Ranges, Taupo, Tongariro Crossing and many more.
Lego backpacker’s adventures continue. Watch his Instagram page for the latest update.
