If you want a taste of India, have a look at the stunning paintings of Bijay Biswaal, an Indian painter and artist. His works capture India’s essence in such details that they have to be seen to be believed.
It is certainly a wonder that Biswaal, who was the chief ticket inspector with the Indian Railways at Nagpur, chose to follow his passion for painting and took voluntary retirement from the Railways. He describes himself on his website as an ‘Artist who respects no limit on creativity…no artistic boundary’. He goes on to expand on it by saying, “Art could not be contained into a single format, genre or language. Ever dynamic flow of creativity flourishes best when let loose, untamed, unhindered…uncharted.”
Born in Pallahara in Odisha, India, this 57-year-old artist has had no formal training in art; he is completely self-taught. That he has risen to national and international fame is testimony to his inborn artistic talent and dedication. It is his technical perfection that adds to the allure of his creations. He is an artist who redefines realism.
Most of the works of this artist focus on rural India, where he provides a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage of the country. Some of his works also showcase the stark reality of India’s urban life. Of course, being from the Indian Railways, some of his works also depict it, such as ‘Train Trail’, ‘Wet Platform Yellow Train’, and many more.
Biswaal experiments with all mediums, whether it is watercolor, acrylic, or oil pastel. He not only creates amazing sceneries but also does collages, cartoons, and caricatures. There is little doubt that he has left his own indelible mark in all the genres and mediums.
Today, Biswaal is the brand ambassador of the iconic Winsor & Newton Art Company. His painting ‘Fire’ won the national award in the professional category at the 23rd All India Art Contest 2008 and his painting ‘Odisha Village’ won the top honors at the Istanbul International Watercolor Society Contest 2013. Besides, got a special mention in PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ for his paintings.
Biswaal enjoys a viewership of over 148,000 fans on Instagram alone.
