Mother-Of-Two Finds Instant Fame On Social Media, Posting Cartoons Of Her Two Kids

Kids are adorable, but at times they become impossible. And when they do, they can let loose nothing less than hell! This is a challenge that probably every mom of tiny-tots faces day in and day out.

Maria Gorbunova, a Russian artist, is no exception. She has two gorgeous little kids – two-year-old Mira and one-year-old Yure – who keep her on her toes most of the times. But, she is also an amazing illustrator, drawing their funny cartoons.

Drawing bug bit Maria very early in her life, when she was just five. At that tender age itself, she started drawing the Disney Princesses. Her inspiration came from watching cartoons on television. As she grew older, she found a natural affinity for drawing people. As a student, she worked as a part-time artist, drawing funny cartoons at weddings and other festivals, while pursuing her studies.

Maria went on to earn a diploma in interior designing, but in her heart of hearts, she always wanted to be an illustrator. In 2013, she graduated from the university but did not pursue interior designing, instead, she took up drawing and has been at it since the last five years.

Of course, even though Maria was good at what she did, fame eluded her. But God works in wondrous ways and destiny had other plans for her. It was one of those days when her children were behaving badly, as usual, and she was totally off mood, after having a hard day.

Maria somehow managed to put her two kids to sleep. She decided to take her mind off these worries, she posted the first picture on her Instagram account late at night. This acted as a pressure-release for her and she didn’t even give it a second thought.

However, when Maria woke up in the morning and checked her Instagram account, she was stunned to find that her post had received a tremendous response, catapulting her to instant fame. She is often asked how she came up with this idea of painting her everyday life with her two kids, she modestly replies, “I didn’t invent anything special. On that day my children behaved badly….” And the rest, as they say, is history.

Maria’s newfound success acted as a great motivator. It inspired her to post more of such cartoons and pictures. What’s surprising is every creation of hers touched the viewers, who were in the same position as her. They could relate to what really happens in her everyday life. Says she, “…so many people see themselves in my pictures and I laugh along with everyone over these situations and then my difficult days become not so difficult.”

Soon Maria began to caption her pictures, which also gave her a rating. Of course, the kind of accolades and pleasant words she receives from people has got her on Cloud Nine. Currently, she enjoys a following of over 28,000 fans.

She says, “In future I’d very much like to illustrate a book, draw pictures for a popular magazine and work as an artist at events in Europe.” And one more thing, she certainly wishes that her children grow up to be artists like her!
