This Sculptor Uses Automotive Parts To Create Amazingly Realistic Metal Sculptures

The art of Edouard Martinet seems something straight out of science fiction, what with robot-like insects and other objects. It’s thanks to the visualization and imagination of this French artist that makes it possible.

Martinet uses junk metal and automotive parts in creating his metallic sculptures. For this, he hunts for parts in garage sales and flea markets. His collection of sculptures includes critters, such as ants, wasps, and other common insects. His creations measure from 30 centimeters to two meters. Such is the realism in his creations that they’ve to be seen to be believed.

Martinet, from his very childhood, was passionate about art. When he attained the age of eight, he developed a fascination for insects. He pursued his dream to be an artist by studying design at l’École Supérieure des Arts Graphiques in Paris, France. Later he worked as a graphic designer, but his charm for insects had not left him.

It wasn’t long before Martinet began to experiment with sculptures made of repurposed parts. This led him to collect junk metallic parts of all shapes and sizes. His work begins with an extensive sketching phase and goes on to the selection phase, during which he searches for appropriate parts to fit into his creation. He rarely modifies pieces to fit his creations, but opts to wait, even for several months, till he finds the right piece. Also, he never welds the joints but screws them together.

It comes as no surprise that he has a following of over 1,445,000 fans on Instagram alone.
