She’s cuteness personified and she’s just nine! Her name is Riley Dashwood, better known as Riley Diary of the YouTube channel fame. Although she gained instant fame from her YouTube videos, it is her copycat costumes that is making her a star of sorts on the internet.
For a nine-year-old, dressing up as a grown-up celebrity is both impressive and downright hilarious. Whatever it is, she enjoys a following of over 50,000 people on Instagram for her copycat costume caper alone.
Enjoying the full support of her father, Rhett, Riley gained famed through her trick shots video, DIY crafts and other humorous content on YouTube when she was only six. However, as she grew up she changed diversified to include creative budget costumes.
This mini-star from Australia is now making waves with her glamorous and artistic, albeit cheap, copycat costumes of her favourite pop icons. Her impression of Lil Tay, a nine-year-old rapper, is simply awesome, which she achieved quite simply by using angel hair pasta lying around in the kitchen.
However, imitating kiddos is not the only thing that Riley was interested in, she has gone on to emulate the international icons, such as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Adding fun to the copycat costume snaps are the accompanying sharp and witty captions.
Although all these celebrities were an inspiration for Riley, her real inspiration was Celeste Barber, a comedian and a cosplayer. Says Rhett, “We were watching a TV show here in Australia and it featured Celeste Barber, a comedian I had not heard of, so I looked up her IG channel and found her recreation photos and thought it looked like fun.” The rest, as they say, is history.
By the looks of it, Riley’s popularity is not subsiding anytime soon. She has what it takes to attain stardom.
