Known actors replaced by Disney characters? Sounds weird, doesn’t it? But this is exactly what Gregory Masouras, a Greek photographer, does in his now-famous mash-up photographs. So popular are his insertions of Disney characters into a movie and TV serial posters and classical and modern paintings that they’ve found a pride of place on social media platforms, fashion magazines, and even in the posters of Game of Thrones and Oscar-nominated movies.
In Oscar-nominated movie posters, this digital artist replaced the characters from five nominated movies with Disney characters. In Game of Thrones posters, he replaced Daenerys Targaryen with Elsa, Sansa Stark with Rapunzel, Ygritte with Merida, and a few others.
It all began in 2012 when this 26-year-old was trying his smartphone camera by clicking the pictures of Athens. In one such pic, he saw a cloud shaped like a Batman logo. As he went about editing the photo, the Eureka moment struck him suddenly. He then started posting an odd mix of enchanting landscapes of Athens and princesses from the Disney land on his Instagram page. These posts immediately caught the attention of many that included professionals from various fields, such as photography, design, and fashion.
On being asked by Bored Panda about his preference for Disney characters in his pics, he said, “All the Disney characters have a special story and characteristics, where they can be adapted to all the facts with little imagination.” According to him, they’re also easy to integrate into what’s being depicted by a particular painting or poster.
The works of this photographer certainly tell their own story in a most enchanting way that immediately connects with the viewers. Little wonder, Masouras enjoys a following of over 130,000 fans on Instagram alone.
