Michael Turner puts the finishing touches to 22 stainless-steel poppies he has created for a Remembrance Sunday treasure hunt. The artist hides 11 of the flowers across the New Forest in Hampshire and posts clues on social media for locals to find them. The other 11 will be auctioned off.

Artist’s Great New Forest Poppy Hunt Raises Thousands For The Royal British Legion

The Great New Forest Poppy Hunt, now in its eighth year, was set up by Turner to support the Royal British Legion. The event is a chance for people to remember those who have died in military service or while serving their country—as well as to enjoy October’s fine weather, which is reflected in each poppy’s design.

Turner’s work has received recognition from around the world and has been exhibited at museums and galleries across the globe. His paintings are also collected by some of Europe’s most prestigious collections including Tate Britain in London as well as private galleries in France and Germany.

Turner’s mission has been a success, with locals and visitors alike indulging in the hunt to find the steel poppies. The auction of the remaining 11 was held earlier this month and proved to be a popular end to an inspiring project. Each of these poppies has now found a new home and will hopefully continue to bring hope and comfort to many for years to come.
