The art of embroidery has been around for ages and its variety has delighted people from all walks of life. However, here is an embroidery artist, who has specialized in creating aerial views of landscape scenes. Meet Victoria Rose Richards, who was born, raised, and is currently living in South-West Devon, UK.
This 22-year-old embroidery artist did not take up embroidery initially but experimented with other forms of art. She explains on createmagazine.com, “After experimenting with a range of mediums since my GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education), I settled on embroidery last year after finally finding an art form I could fall in love with. I haven’t looked back, and now, while away the free hours I used to spend stressing instead of creating small, colorful landscapes using embroidery floss and wool!”
Nature inspires Richards, as her rural base abounds in countryside roads, river streams, and farmlands. She says on mymodernmet.com, “I’m a biology graduate with a passion for embroidery, nature, and all things bright and colorful!” Her expertise lies in recreating aerial views of the beautiful countryside scenery. She meticulously reproduces the scenery through colorful threads and straight satin stitches to depict a patchwork of fields and French knots to portray a cluster of trees, as seen from above.
But why embroidery? Richards, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, a developmental disorder affecting the ability to effectively socialize and communicate, found embroidery to calm her mind. It was while browsing the internet that she came across embroidered landscapes that caught her fancy. She immediately dipped into her grandmother’s old embroidery tin and tried her hand at it. She got hooked to it and since then, there has been no looking back for her.
Richards is always on the lookout to learn new techniques to make her embroidery pieces as real to the actual scenery as possible, as viewed from high up in the air. Today, it has become her full-time job and she has never been happier!
Victoria Rose Richards embroidered landscapes are available on her Etsy shop. She enjoys followership of over 123,000 on Instagram alone.
