One look at the works of Tullius Heuer, an artist-illustrator, makes it evident that this man is exceptionally gifted. This native of Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil, has created such exquisite surrealistic three-dimensional computer-generated fantasy illusions that they have gone absolutely viral on the social media.
The pencil-art simulations, blended with manipulated photography, of this digital artist are so amazing that they not only come to life but ‘leap off the page’. The eerie, yet compellingly fantastic, the art form is surrealism at its best!
This surrealistic art was not the first calling of Tullius. He is a degree holder in computer networking and had held a position in an ad agency before he plunged full time into his true passion, that of a freelance artist. This self-taught digital artist mixes images with touches of surrealism that makes the work both somber and scary.
Asked what really got him started, he says, “I started focusing on art when I noticed I could represent my thoughts in an image, that’s pretty important to me…it’s what I want for my life.” Nature-wise, Tullius is a very emphatic and patient and tries to keep his anger under wraps. Being emotional, he is quickly reduced to tears, when he gets passionate about something.
On what has influenced his creativity, he says, “My main influences are really simple, nothing more than life and its feelings. I can feel inspired by music, by waking up and staring at my dogs playing, by a homeless child asking for a piece of bread, movies, and everything that surrounds me.”
He adds, “Sometimes I get myself into deep meditation about existence and it makes me think about things I can do to change myself to be a better person. I want to make art that has a positive impact on someone’s life. It doesn’t matter how many people have seen it, if just one person was touched by that, it’s worth the effort.”
The dreamlike creativity of this digital artist mixes surrealism with a somber expression. He verges on melancholic subjects and dark themes that have a deep meaning. He also experiments with showing different feelings with different points of view.
It is to his unique creative sense to make something look happy and sad at the same time! This he manages by employing many self-taught techniques translates into the illusion of three-dimensions on a flat surface.
