Swedish Rock Balancer Showcases His Amazing Rock Balancing Art

There is a certain charm in gravity-defying feats, be it tight rope walking or even the simple rock balancing. The former is all too common, but what is rare is the latter one. And who better than Pontus Jansson to showcase this mind-boggling rock balancing art.

This Swedish artist creates sculptures from random stones. He doesn’t carve them but places them one on top of the other in seemingly impossible stacks that seem to defy the laws of gravity. In the first instance, they appear to be glued together, but in actuality, they are finely balanced on top of each other.

If you have tried balancing two uneven objects one on top of one the other, you would know how difficult it is and how much patience it requires. Jansson explains in an interview to dzinetrip.com, “It’s an active, playful form of meditation that requires you to focus. Your patience will be challenged a lot because it can take a lot of time to build something and many times it collapses on you.”

That Jansson has made rock balancing into an art form is certainly worthy of applause. He came upon this idea when he saw a rock tower on Öland beach. It impressed him no end and he began experimenting with balancing rocks. His first success got him hooked on to it for it looked like the stones floating in the air.

Of course, immense concentration is required for rock balancing. Jansson credits his power of concentration to yoga and meditation. He practices meditation on a daily basis and also tries to live a mindful conscious life. He has also gone commercial with the works that he photographs and sells online as wall art and as prints for apparel and coffee mugs.

Jansson enjoys a following of over 180,000 fans on Instagram alone.
