Canadian Women Martial Artist Smashes Guinness World Record!

People get their kicks in various ways but this martial artist gets her kicks from…what else…her kicks! Meet the gutsy 28-year-old Silvana Shamuon, who is making waves on the internet with her moves. She received the Shaolin Kung-Fu Third Level Black Sash title by kicking 59 American footballs off people’s heads in one minute when she was only 23 years of age. She is a Sifu or instructor at her family-owned Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts in Waterloo and Hotshot Athletic in Cambridge.

However, the icing on the cake for this Ontario, Canada-based martial artist was breaking the Guinness World Record for the highest number of kicks in one minute by a female pair. Shamuon broke the world record by teaming up with her 15-year-old student Hannah Wright by executing 178 kicks in 60 seconds.

The Guinness World Record rules state that in a team effort only one person is allowed to kick at a time and with a back-and-forth movement between them. The foot has to touch the floor between each kick and the people who balance objects on their heads must have a minimum height of 5 feet 4.1 inches (1.65 meters).

The duo managed to execute their lightning-fast kicks, while the pad was held at shoulder height by Ryan Wightman, also a student of Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts. This feat was achieved at Bingemans in Ontario, Canada on September 12, 2021, and was officially acknowledged as the new Guinness World Record in December, of the same year. As per guinnessworldrecords.com, this record was previously held by Gaurav Goley of India, a practitioner of Taekwondo, who kicked off 57 plastic cones off the heads of two associates in 60 seconds.

After this sterling achievement, Shamuon stated on guinnessworldrecords.com, “I wanted to break a record mainly to push myself and see what I’m capable of. In the martial arts world, you’re constantly evolving and learning new things and I wanted to put everything I’ve learned in my 19 years in the sport to the ultimate test.” She was all praise for Hannah for this record-smashing achievement. Incidentally, Hannah, an Elora native and a student at St. Jude’s/Scholars’ Hall in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, is the champion of the world in the advanced junior black belt division and is also a Sijay or junior instructor at Shamuon’s martial arts schools.

It comes as no surprise that Shamuon enjoys a following of over 379,000 fans on Instagram alone.
