We always thought that the only 3D stuff that can be made out of paperis through origami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. But, here is a person who creates amazing 3D figures via papercuts. So amazing, in fact, that the social media and the internet are a buzz with excitement over his creations.
This talented illustrator and designer is none other than Robbin Gregorio from the Philippines. His claim to fame is his incredible renderings of ‘Game of Thrones’ papercut characters. But, these are not the only ones he has created. Both Instagram and Facebook are full of his remarkable papercut figures, not to mention several websites on the internet.
Gregorio uses a variety of textured papers and colored layers to bring out the details of the face and dresses of his characters. This, coupled with brush and paint, brings out wonderful characters in the image of their originals.
Gregorio’s perfect style is thanks to the deft use of his cutting implements. The chief among them seem to be the swivel craft knife, which only experts can handle with dexterity. This implement uses different sized blades, other than the standard X-Acto blade, that makes it ideal for fine work that Gregorio undertakes.
However, it is not only the craft that sets this extremely talented papercut artist apart, it is also his eye for detail. Gregorio is able to infuse expressions in his papercuts that catches every nuance of the character he is creating.
One look at his exceptionally real-looking papercut creations, and we certainly want more of it. His fans wait patiently as to when this artist will upload his next creation. Little wonder, he enjoys over 1.2 million followers on the Facebook and a sizeable number on Instagram and other websites.
