Russian Couple Creates Lifelike Dolls that are One-of-a-Kind

Barbie dolls are one of the most popular dolls in the world today and you would think they are the ultimate, but here is a Russian couple, who creates such lifelike dolls the likes of which you may not have seen. Meet Anastasiya and Sergey Lutsenko, whose creations are making waves on the internet.

Although the couple, based in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk, began creating realistic dolls some years back, it was in 2017 that they posted their work on the internet. It went viral in no time and took the internet by storm. And why not? Each doll is a collectors’ item, with its skin texture, couture, and elaborate hairdos. And what really catches one’s fancy is the mind-boggling variety the couple comes up with. According to them, they have never repeated a model, believing that each creation is unique.

Both Anastasiya and Sergey are classical art graduates from Krasnodar Art School and Kuban State University of Art and Culture. Later they learned graphic designing. Both are also inspired by people with exceptional talents, who motivate them to create their unique one-of-a-kind dolls.

Their process of doll making starts with ideation of the doll followed by making its rough sketch. This is the starting point and as the work progresses, they keep improvising on it to create a doll that has a character of its own. They use decorative elements, such as ‘carving’ that is unique for each doll. They never repeat a design.

As regards the ideas, they draw them from everyday life by watching people and spotting interesting character types that stand out from the crowd. They even get their ideas from architecture, paintings, photos, sculptures, books, catalogs, magazines, and, of course, the internet.

The couple enjoys a following of over 270,000 fans and counting on Instagram alone.
