Dog Lover & Graphic Designer Turns Herself Into A Professional Portrait Artist

If destiny has something in store for you, it comes to you in wondrous ways. So was the case with Patricia Otero, a graphic designer by profession and a dog lover.

Born in Barcelona, Otero graduated in graphic design in 2011 and tried her hand in a few advertising companies. But, her heart was not really into it. What she really wanted to do was painting, since according to her, “I needed to use my hands, my pencils, my oils, my big canvasses.”

Otero’s little town in Galicia in northern Spain, where she lives with her partner and six gorgeous Jack Russell Terriers, has an abundance of greenery and wildlife. This ignited the passion for painting in her. Being a dog lover, she was also in touch with many dog lovers in the neighborhood.

A friend of Otero’s wanted a portrait made of his father’s favorite dog to be given as a Christmas present. This became the turning point in her life. She not only painted this dog in a masterly fashion but also posted it on Instagram.

“I’ve been obsessed with art and with painting since I was a child, but I am a graphic designer by trade. After graduating in Graphic Design in 2011, I had worked in advertising companies developing the graphics for websites and smartphone apps for a couple years. But realized that I needed something more than a “screen” world”. Otero Told AwesomeByte. “I had been in art school for 2 years before doing Graphic Design, so I knew I needed a more physical experience for creating art. I needed to use my hands, my pencils, my oils, my big canvases. In 2015 I decided I needed a change in my life, I moved to a tiny town in the north of Spain, away from the city. This little town was in Galicia. It’s the wettest province in Spain, but also the greenest and the one with such abundance of Wildlife. I met my partner here, and together we grew a family of 6 dogs. 6 gorgeous Jack Russells Terriers.”

Otero’s talent was soon recognized and she started receiving so many requests that she quit her graphic design work to concentrate fully on painting animals.

  • Hi Patricia. I’m so disappointed you didn’t put Snooki’s picture on your website. I think it’s beautiful like everything you do. I thought I would have seen it by now.
