Wood Artist Creates Stunning Animal Sculptures Using Only Salvaged Wood

Artists who create from wood generally use wood available in wood stores. However, Jeffro Uitto is one wood artist who only uses salvaged wood which he himself finds, such as driftwood, roots, Burks, and natural found wood. With these uneven, twisted pieces he creates stunning works of art and one-of-its-kind furniture.

What’s surprising is that such creations appear more realistic, then the ones rendered by traditional wood crafting. Animals seem to be Jeffro’s favorite subject since almost all his creations are animals. And he loves to make them in gigantic proportions. Take for example his wooden giraffe, lion, horse, crab, and even the birds.

Jeffro fell in love with wood when he was in high school and very soon it became his creative outlet. It also became evident what his future career option would be. In an interview with Daily Mail, Jeffro shared, “I’ve always loved working with wood. I love using such beautiful, natural shapes and giving them a new lease of life.”

Jeffro sources his wood from the Washington coastline, the shores of Tokeland, the banks of Smith Creek, and the valleys between the Willapa Hills. Probably, for this reason, he has located his shop – Knock on Wood – in Tokeland, Washington, USA. Winter is the best time for him to find his pieces when storms blow the wood around.

Once he has collected enough pieces, he visualizes how these pieces can be utilized to create what he has in mind. The God-gifted talent that Jeffro possesses enables him to fashion anything from mammoth wooden animals to unique home furniture. Working with such warped pieces is certainly not easy. For him, the biggest challenge is to find the right pieces for each project. This can take months and each sculpture can take years to complete.

Jeffro works on custom orders, commissions, and personal projects. Every item of his is meticulously constructed, whether it’s a gnarly rocking chair or a commissioned sculpture. In addition to working in his shop, he also builds his sculptures on-site, like his creations in Alaska and Hawaii.

On Facebook, he has over 170,000 fans and counting.
