Majuli Island, Assam (3/6)

MAJULI is the world’s largest river island spanning across an area of 880 square km. Present on the BRAHMPUTRA River in Assam, it can be accessed by ferries from JORHAT. It is a birdwatchers paradise as it harbors species like GREATER ADJUTANT STORK, SIBERIAN CRANE, WHISTLING TEAL ETC. Apong, the rice beer served during ALI-AI- LIGANG festival is a widely loved delicacy. The Vaishnava Sataras established by Acharya Sankaradeva are beautiful and have an uncanny spiritualistic feel to them. Winter sunset during December to January is a treat for the eyes!
