Gurudongmar Lake, North Sikkim (2/6)

The beauty of this place is splendid and the feeling that gets inside you after reaching here is truly ethereal. Situated at the altitude of 17100 ft., it’s one of the highest lakes in the world and second highest in Sikkim. The icy mountains surrounding this lake present a serene panorama.

The lake is named after Guru Dongmar who once spiritualized its waters due to which a part of it never freezes and hence is considered sacred by the locals.

It’s a 7-8 hour drive from GANGTOK, the capital of Sikkim and the nearest village is THANGU. A permit from the army is required to visit this jewel. November- June is the best time to visit it.
