Unique Calligraphy Of This Lettering Artist Has Everyone Spellbound

If you get impressed with the collection of fonts that your PC or laptop holds, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! The incredible lettering of James Lewis will simply blow your mind. He not only draws and paints letters but does logos too. And such is his passion that he’s always creating things, whether it’s for his clients or his videos for social media.

Of course, for a man of his caliber, he has no dearth of clients. Their trust in Lewis is so great that they give him complete creative freedom to work. He’s at his creative best when he works alone, and whatever he creates never fails to please his clients. He has worked for big companies, such as Hasbro Games and others.

The feather in Lewis’ cap was the opportunity he got from the company Goodtype. He was made part of their lettering workshop tour of the US for teaching his skills. He got the same opportunity in Tokyo and Singapore too. He also has teaching assignments in the pipeline in Oslo, and talks in Amsterdam and Hong Kong.

From his childhood, Lewis wanted to be an artist. Such was the drawing skill that he won five pounds as the star prize for a drawing competition! This legally homeless teenager got enamored by lettering when he was 16. He began cultivating this skill through calligraphy videos. After discovering his aptitude for this type of art, he went on to pursue typography that included drawing, painting, sign-making, and logo creation.

James Lewis lettering artist considers calligraphy, hand-lettering, sign-painting, traditional typography, and graphic design as important, but not essential to mastering the art of lettering. As far as tools for lettering are concerned, he uses simple pencil and paper, since putting pencil to paper inspires him. He also uses paint and a brush. For editing, he uses Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Currently based in Cardiff, UK, where he has spent the last six years, he’s all praise for the creative community there and its easy accessibility to London, where he has undertaken many projects. It’s not surprising that Lewis is enjoying a viewership of over 490,000 followers on Instagram alone.

Describe this with words beginning with ‘L’! 💚 Constraints foster creativity. I’ve been posting on Instagram for 6 years now, but it wasn’t until I began experimenting with single letters that people began to take notice. Focusing on a single letter really helped me understand Typography and learn how to get creative within the confines of the 26 letters. This is why at my 3D lettering workshops we focus on drawing, and then painting a 3D letter my students are always proud of. In one months time my European workshop tour will begin and I’m so excited to meet even more of you creative people from around the world! Many of you have already booked your seats and the workshops are likely to sell out. So, to join us for a day of laughs and lettering check out the link in my bio for all the information.
