The Intriguing Art Of German Artist That Seems To Leap Out Of Paper

If you watch Stefan Pabst’s artwork from a distance, you will find his subjects leaping out of paper! Such is the 3D illusion this Russian-born professional artist, who relocated to Germany, creates on a 2D surface of the paper. It comes as no surprise that he found instant fame through his unique art.

Pabst used to be a run-of-the-mill artist but was good at what he did. His portraits, created from photographs, were so life-like that they delighted his customers no end. But doing such portraits day in and day out lost its charm and he found it not challenging at all. In his quest to get artistically challenged, he began pushing his boundaries.

Pabst’s persistence paid off and he succeeded in mastering the 3D art. His magical creations, that seemed to jump out of paper, intrigued his viewers. This was something unique happening in the art world. Once he uploaded his video the ‘Glass of Water’ on YouTube, it proved a huge success.

Since then, there has been no looking back for Pabst. Using pencils, oils, and pens, he draws his subjects on sheets of paper and even cardboard that magically pop-up from the surface. However, he does most of his work using the oil dry-brush technique on special paper. Such is his understanding of perspective, depth, light, and shadow that it becomes difficult to believe that his 3D creations are simply drawn on a 2D surface.

What’s more, Pabst is at ease drawing 3D sketches with all kinds of subjects, be it celebrities, pop culture icons or objects, animals and others. He regularly gets orders from celebrities, such as actors, singers, sportspersons, and politicians and also gets commissioned by leading brands.

Pabst’s aim is not only to awe his audience with his unique art, but also inspire them to learn it. To this end, he regularly uploads helpful tutorials on YouTube.
