From Product Design to Paper Masterpiece: The Artistic Journey of Sarah Capon

Meet Sarah Capon, otherwise known as eyepicturedthis, a Brisbane-based Illustrator and Animator who has made a name for herself in the art world with her unique and mesmerizing paper creations. Sarah’s journey to becoming an artist has been a winding one, filled with self-discovery and a determination to pursue her passion despite the obstacles.

“I knew since I was young that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up, but I never felt like it was a realistic dream,” Sarah shares. Growing up, she enjoyed art as a subject but wasn’t aware of the different career paths available to her. She studied product design at Queensland College of Arts and graduated with first-class honors in 2017. However, it wasn’t until she took the leap and went freelance that she found her true passion in illustration and animation.

In 2019, Sarah was offered a job working on the Luminescent Longreach project for the Qantas Museum as a visual development artist, illustrator, and animator. This opportunity allowed her creativity to flourish and gave her the confidence to develop her unique style. But it wasn’t until the pandemic hit in 2020 and she found herself with extra time on her hands that Sarah truly found her calling. She turned to paper art and has been creating mesmerizing pieces and videos that have been enjoyed by people all over the world.

Sarah’s paper creations are not only visually stunning but also spread happiness and positivity. From whimsical animals to intricate paper cutouts, her art is a reflection of her love for storytelling and her desire to spread joy through her work. “I love being able to spread happiness with my work and I hope to continue doing this well into the future,” she says.
