Romanie-Jade Tulloch, a 19-year-old teen from Nottinghamshire, UK, will never need a face mask to attend a masquerade ball. Why? Because she is adept at painting her own face to look like a mask and much more! This truly great makeup artist paints such real images on her face that is simply amazing and, at times, grotesque.
It took less than a year for Tulloch to master her signature illusionist looks. And people are simply amazed at the sheer variety of themes and the meticulous details with which she paints her face in vivid colours, depending upon what she’s creating.
Tulloch undertook a two-year course in fine art at Nottingham College and went on to become a self-taught makeup artist. It was her idea to combine the two talents and use her face as her canvas! Says she, “I feel like these things really helped me focus on growing my art and different techniques, which funnily enough still help me when I’m doing my makeup illusions. I’ve always loved makeup and I’ve always loved art, the two go hand in hand.”
As regards her inspiration, she says, “I get a lot of my inspiration from nature – it’s the basis of all art – and from past artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet and others.” As to the question of her working on a theme, she denies having any. Says she, “Everything is a bit random, I can be sitting down and a random thought pops into my head and I think: ‘Oh, I’ll try that today’.”
Whatever she creates on her face is sheer genius. Imagine sitting in front of the mirror for hours and painting your face in such meticulous details that it no more remains a face, but becomes a masterpiece! Imagine also the kind of patience it requires to apply various hues to draw and shade. It comes as no surprise that these facial creations can take anywhere between three to five hours.
Asked about her procedure, Tulloch says,
Little wonder Tulloch’s creations are a rage on the internet. On Instagram alone, she has a following of over 250,000 adoring fans.
