Meet The Hair Artist Who Uses Head And Body Hair As His Canvas

You’ve seen artists use a number of tools for creating art, such as paints and brushes, chalks, charcoals, threads, clays, metals…the list is endless. However, here’s an artist, who doesn’t require any such tools, but only a hirsute head or body and a trimmer!

Meet Roberto Perez, who likes to be known as Rob The Original. He certainly possesses a God-gifted talent of haircutting. However, he himself is not comfortable imagining himself to be a mere barber, the reason why you won’t find any reference of his early training as a barber. What he’s actually passionate about is drawing.

Rob, born and brought up in Los Angeles, California and now based in San Antonio, Texas, aspired to be an artist from his very childhood since he was good in drawing. When he moved to San Antonio, it was this passion that set him out on his unique path. His incredible works of art range from portraits, illustrations to full-head painting and graphic designs.

It’s Rob’s amazingly fertile imagination that enables him to create whatever he desires. He’s constantly pushing boundaries and his creativity is only limited by his imagination. He uses a marker pen to first draw out the outline of the sketch he wants to create and then uses a fine electric trimmer to trim out the hair on the lighter portions of the sketch. Watching his video gives an idea of what an intricate and meticulous task this is.

Of course, being a pioneer of hair art got Rob instant recognition. He enjoys a following of over 890,000 fans on Instagram. His viral video was featured on Yahoo’s homepage. He has been invited as a guest artist on the Queen Latifah Show and ESPN’s SportsCenter. He has also featured on Spurs Insider, presented by Fox Sports Nation.
