Renowned Sculptor Teaches Sculpting Techniques Through Her Online Course

The stunning life-like human sculptures created by Amelia Rowcroft has certainly set her apart from the rest. With over 20 years’ experience in figurative sculpting, she not only creates a variety of human figures, busts, and heads but also shares her skills by teaching the classical techniques of portrait sculpture.

Rowcroft’s strength lies in creating incredibly realistic fine art portraits and figurative sculptures. It comes as no surprise that she has been roped in by the film industry and world’s leading wax museums, including Madame Tussauds, to create sculptures for them. Today, she’s an established name in the sculpting world.

Rowcroft was fascinated with art since her childhood. After passing out of Central St. Martins, London, UK, she enrolled in Wimbledon School of Art (now known as Wimbledon College of Arts). After graduation, she went on to join The Florence Academy of Art, an American art school in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. After this, she started working as a freelance sculptor.

It was during this time that Rowcroft met fellow artists, who despite being excellent sculptors were all at sea when it came to sculpting humans. According to her, attaining a likeness of a person is difficult without the knowledge of human anatomy and the associated core techniques. Of course, there are art schools teaching this form of sculpting, but these traditional skills can be difficult and expensive. This deterred most from attending regular classes or pursue residential courses.

The ignorance of even established sculptors in sculpting human figures opened a window of opportunity for Rowcroft. She hit upon the idea of an alternative way of teaching portrait sculpting, where the students can learn at their own pace and fit it around their schedule. This resulted in her online course called Strong Foundations.

This course provides as close an experience to sculpting as being alongside Rowcroft in her studio. The course consists of all the tips and techniques she has learned over the years. Today, she’s helping a lot many aspiring sculptors by sharing her skills online. Her own creations can be viewed on her Instagram page where she has over 54,000 followers.
