Portraits In Oil Of This Polish Artist Compare With Paintings Of Old Masters

It’s really exciting to see a naturally gifted artist hone his skills to become a master artist. Damian Lechoszest is one prime example. He was born in Raciborz, Poland and is now settled in Baborow, a small town south of Poland.

Damian’s passion for drawing was evident since childhood when he impressed his friends and peers by exactly copying a variety of characters from comics and fairy tales. So good was he in sketching that he not only won many high-level art competitions in his school years but also received praise from art critics.

Damian’s luck turned for the better when he was picked up by a local primary school art teacher in Baborow. Taking him under his wings, the teacher set about honing his practical skills in oil painting. Damian went on to graduate from the University of Technology in Opole, Poland, and also received practical training in painting at Opole’s Art College.

This Polish artist became adept at oil paintings and chose humans as his favorite subjects. He went for portrait painting, the most difficult form of painting. According to him, a portrait to be good needs to convey something more than a visual form. And he did so most convincingly. Today, people compliment his portraits by stating that they’re more real than reality.

Damian begins his paintings by making preliminary drawings and devotes a lot of time in planning individual elements. He especially orders his canvases from a Belgian company. The homemade canvases possess a life-like weave and have good absorption and grip that aids in his work. As regards the paints, Damian uses paints that have strong and pure pigments, such as Winsor & Newton paints.

Although the time taken to finish a painting depends upon its size, an average-sized one takes Damian anywhere around two to three weeks to complete. He takes his time because his aim is to delight and enchants the viewers. He considers a painting complete when all the required elements form a harmonious whole.

For Damian, the effect of his paintings on viewers is of prime importance. For this, he went on to research the process of visual stimuli and how it affects the viewers’ perception. For gaining this knowledge he studied biology, psychology, and physiology of vision, and, in the process, accumulated around 4,000 books!

With over 90,000 followers on Instagram alone, Damian’s oil paintings are a rage on the internet. His works can be easily compared with those of renowned old masters.
