When you offer your skin as a canvas for tattooing, the design of your choice being etched on it better be nothing short of amazing since the process is irreversible. And it’s natural for people wanting tattoos to approach tattoo artists who’re the best in business.
Helena Fernandes, a tattoo artist, has turned this belief on its head. She’s one poor tattoo artist who’s in demand for this very reason and people are queuing up to get inked. This Brazilian tattoo artist has even opened her own tattoo shop, called Malfeitona, in Salvador de Bahia, her native place. The name means ‘badly done’ and it itself announces what her clients can expect from Malfeitona tattoos.
Here’s how Helena nurtured her love for drawing. Says she, “I started to draw because my parents were taking me to the church three times a week. To keep me quiet, they’d give me a pen and some paper. But I kept drawing because I liked it.”
Helena Fernandes Malfeitona works have also appeared on mugs, bags, T-shirts, and even in zines and comic books. Her Malfeitona Instagram account, that showcases her art, has a following of almost 90,000 fans.
