South African Miniature Artist Finds International Fame Through Her Work ‘365 Paintings For Ants’

How many details can you put in a miniature painting? If you say very little, you’d be dead wrong. Lorraine Loots is one outstanding miniature artist who is enthralling the world by her most detailed miniature paintings. Not for nothing she enjoys a following of over 290,000 fans on her Instagram account alone. This South African artist is best known for her miniature painting series ‘365 Paintings for Ants’.

Although Loots always had an aptitude for art and painting, she never planned to become an artist, so much so, she even dropped Art as a subject in her high school. After finishing her Art School at Stellenbosch University, she even stopped painting, since choosing art as a career was never on her mind.

However, Loots did become an artist, when she put up her ‘365 Paintings for Ants’. This project involved painting a miniature every day for the entire year. She enabled viewers to own painting on a date specifically ‘booked’ by them. This runaway success and the incredible international response it garnered led her to adopt miniature painting as her full-time occupation.

After this, there was no looking back for Loots. She went on to undertake many such miniature painting projects, such as ‘365 Postcards for Ants’, ‘100 Paintings for Ants’, and several more. She showcased her works at international exhibitions in cities, such as New York, Los Angles, Chicago, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney. Her works were also featured on The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, Colossal, CNN, Buzzfeed, and Gizmodo.
