The 3D Murals Of Gigantic Insects Seem Straight Out Of Science Fiction Horror Movies

If you’re scared of the creepy crawlies, this art is certainly not for you. This is simply because this graffiti artist creates gigantic 3D versions of insects that people simply abhor. Portuguese street artist Sergio Odeith is a master of creating bugs and other creatures in a colorfully eye-popping way.

Odeith, who was born in Damaia, Portugal, started out with a spray can for the first time in the mid-80s. However, the 90s saw graffiti spread throughout Portugal from its ‘birthplace’ Carcavelos. It immediately caught Odeith’s imagination and once he adopted it, he got totally immersed in it.

Over time, Odeith developed his own technique that evolved with time. He distinguished himself from other 3D graffiti artists by producing colorful large-scale paintings of various creatures, but it was his gigantic insects that drew the maximum response from his viewers.

Odeith terms his 3D art as ‘somber 3D’ technique that involves angles, lines, and shadows. This enables him to produce fantastically realistic 3D effects. His interest in perspective and shading is quite apparent in all his works, which makes his compositions, landscapes, and portraits so realistic.

Thanks to Odeith’s growing popularity, an opportunity to paint large-scale murals in Damaia, Carcavelos soon came his way. He created stunning street art at many places in Portugal, such as Santa Filomena, Cova da Moura and 6 de Maio. Once the anamorphic art series of this Lisbon-based muralist gained international recognition, work started coming his way.

Odeith has been commissioned to create street art in the US cities of Baton Rouge, Log Angeles, Charleston, and Lexington. He has even bagged business contracts with international brands, such as Coca Cola, Estradas de Portugal, Kingsmill, Samsung, Shell, and many others.

Odeith has also participated in many events, such as Meeting of Styles in Alemanha, Museum of Public Art, Louisiana, EUA, MuBE-Brazilian Museum for Sculpture, São Paulo, Brazil, and others. Such is the popularity of his art that Odeith Instagram page has been viewed over 500,000 times. Even Odeith Facebook page has over 27,000 likes. Odeith prints can also be ordered online.
