You have to hand it to Bollywood and its denizens to grab the headlines. Whether it is scandals, hook ups, splits, juicy gossip or plain rumors, the tinsel town has it all. So, the latest stunt enacted by our very own Nawazuddin Siddiqui came as no surprise. But, this one was with a difference.
What he did was unthinkable in the current environment in the country. He touched upon religion that the celebrities usually tread cautiously, since the fear of outraging the hardliners is very real.
Take the current case of Sonu Nigam and his call against the disturbing azaan blaring on loudspeakers that had him pitted against a Maulvi. The spat still rages on, with both sides firing one salvo after another at each other!
But, Nawazuddin turned out to be a different breed. The ace actor that he is, he gave out his views on religion without stirring up a hornet’s nest and in the most innovative fashion. And more importantly, still made the point.
The actor posted a video on the Facebook in which he talks about his DNA. The ‘talking’ is all through placards. The placards go something like this:
“Hi, I am Nawazuddin Siddiqui.”
“I had got my DNA test done and when the report came in I found that I am…”
“…16.66% Hindu, 16.66% Muslim, 16.66% Sikh, 16.66% Christian, 16.66% Buddhist and
16.66% of all other religions of the world, but…”
“…when I discovered my soul, I found that I am…”
“… 100% artist.”
Nawazuddin held the placards in the clothes of religions he represented while showing the placards. For example, when showing the Sikh placard, he is seen donning a ‘pagri’ and sporting a mustache and a beard and likewise for other religious entities.
