Miniature Wunderland – A Must-See In Hamburg, Germany

If you visit Germany and not see Miniature Wunderland in Hamburg, your trip is certainly not complete. This is because this popular tourist attraction showcases the largest model railway system in the world and has the honor of being voted the most popular tourist attraction in Germany. Not only this, but it also has a miniature airport.

All the miniature scenes are set in the picturesque regions of the country and the world. Its nine sections comprise the Harz, the fictitious city of Knuffingen, the Alps, a replica of the Hamburg Airport, and scenes from America, Austria, Hamburg, Italy, Scandinavia, and Switzerland.

The year 2020 is tipped to be the final construction phase of this miniature world. It’ll have a total of 10 new sections that will offer 1,300 trains with 10,000 carriages. Besides, it’ll also have over 100,000 moving vehicles, 500,000 lights, 130,000 trees, and 400,000 human figurines. Also, on the anvil is the inclusion of sections for Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, England, and the Netherlands.

The idea of building a miniature railway system came to Frederik and Gerrit Braun in the year 2000. The two brothers resolve to build the largest model railway system and, after obtaining a loan, started construction it in that year itself. By the year 2001, they had managed to complete three miniature sections, which were completely operable.

What’s so special about Wunderland is its incredible sets of miniature models. So accurate are they that had it not been for their size, they could’ve been easily mistaken for the real! Sample the lifelike scenes that include unloading of contents from container ships, moving cable cars ascending the snowy mountains of miniature Switzerland, and even the Las Vegas strip! It comes as no surprise that the venue is thronged by tourists from all over the world all year-round.
