There is something really cute about miniatures. And this amazing artist makes cute, cuter by her incredible miniature sculpting of animals!
Meet Kerri Pajutee, who currently resides in Central Oregon. Seeing her life-like animal miniatures, it is difficult to believe that she is a self-taught artist. She has developed her own technique of mixed media, where she combines fibres of wool, alpaca, cashmere and silk to create her realistic animal replicas.
Pajutee creates her miniatures in the traditional dollhouse scale of 1:12, where one inch equals one foot. This provides uniformity to all her creations since they possess the same proportions. This way it binds different animals in a size-compatible set.
Her inspiration is her personal experience with animals, whom she loves. And she creates through her endearing memory. Little wonder her creations delight the heart and bring a smile to the face of the viewers.
According to Pajutee, “As a self-taught artist, I revel in the creative process. Sculpting has afforded me a means of expression and provided me with over four decades of never-ending trial and fascination. Inspired by the animals I have come to know my art is motivated by my desire to capture and express that ‘spark’ of personality…”.
Patujee balances her life with her art. For her, ‘balance’ means spending part of her time in her studio and producing a limited number of sculptures per year and the rest with her loving and supportive family and friends. This arrangement helps in keeping her centred and fresh.
Not only does she enjoy more than 27,000 followers on Instagram, she enjoys international recognition too. Her distinctive sculptures are part of many private collections throughout the world. Her miniatures are also on permanent display in the Kathleen Savage Browning Miniatures Collection at the Kentucky Gateway Museum.
