Miniature Books That ‘Pop-Up’ To Reveal Meticulously Crafted Interiors

Miniature books are certainly not a novelty. From religious books to classics, all have been printed in their tiny forms. In fact, the current Guinness World Record for the world’s tiniest printed book is held by a children’s book titled ‘Teeny Ted from Turnip Town’. It measures an unbelievable 70 by 100 micrometers.

However, the Japanese artist, Zhihui, is one up on miniature printed books, he creates miniature books that pop-up! These pop-up books are so appealing that one feels like popping them up again and again. And why not? The meticulously crafted interiors of a home that the small pop-up houses reveal are so beautiful as to impress anyone. It’s quite evident from the number of tiny pop-up books that for this artist, small is certainly beautiful.

Just sample Zhihui’s miniature pop-up books. One book, when opened, reveals a clock, the size of a water droplet, resting on the wall. Another one pops-up into a bathroom in which a picture frame rests over the tub. In another one, the miniature furniture and wall fixtures appear magically on popping up The intricacy and delicacy involved in each book is simply breathtaking.

Zhihui’s eye for detail and his individual brushstrokes in creating the objects inside the book are really praiseworthy. The more complicated and tinier the book, the more detailed and meticulously created it appears. The love and patience of this creator are apparent in each and every work.

The process of crafting Miniature pop-up books makes Zhihui happy. He lives by the dictum ‘live simply, enjoy happily’. And he believes in sharing this happiness, the reason why his books sell like hot cakes in his Etsy shop. His artistic and literary masterpieces sell not only in Japan but also across the world.
