It’s difficult to imagine that tissue paper can be used in any other way other than what it’s meant for. However, you’ve to hand it over to Marianne Eriksen-Scott Hansen, an artist, who not only uses it for her art but does so brilliantly. Her claim to fame is making intricate and lifelike paper blossoms of enchanting shapes and hues.
Hansen’s aim as an artist is not only to create beautiful art but also to infuse beauty in people’s lives. To quote her on Bored Panda, “Just as you need food in your stomach and clothes on your body, so do you think you need beauty. I’ve decided that the bit of beauty I might’ve inside just goes out.”
This Copenhagen-based Danish artist has been making paper blossoms for the past five years. Most of her large-scale works require a thousand or more millimeter-thin pieces of tissue paper. However, she’s averse to using custom-colored tissue paper but uses what’s available. It’s the raw appeal of tissue paper that inspires her to create something flavorful. It doesn’t come as a surprise that her incredibly realistic tissue paper flower bouquets are a rage on the internet.
Hansen’s flower bouquets are surprisingly durable and don’t break easily, despite being made out of fragile tissue paper. This is because she uses multiple layers of paper that reinforce each other. She’s proud of the fact that she actually transforms a weak material into a strong one. She has gained invaluable knowledge and experience working with designers, such as Karl Lagerfeld and Viktor & Rolf.
Such wondrous work of art cannot go unnoticed. So, it comes as no surprise that her stunning blossoms have been used by the Royal Copenhagen at Amagertrov in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her works have been exhibited at the Hempels Glas Museum, Voergaard Castle and Copenhagen Contemporary.
