This artist doesn’t require a canvas to paint on, her body is her canvas! Meet makeup artist and body painter Alexys Fleming, who’s wowing the viewers online as Lex Madeyewlook and inspiring the world around her with her creativity.
Lex is a born artist and has always drawn as far as she can remember. Once introduced to makeup, she quickly found out that it can be used in more ways than the basic application. She saw it being used in movies to create characters and, even, monsters, as also to make people look beautiful. She loved its creative aspect. She also loved the way makeup helps hide scarring, bruising, and discoloration. In her words, it helps heal the mind and make one feel beautiful.
What actually pushed Lex into makeup art was her total disinterest in studies, her bullying at school, and, more importantly, her acne and diabetes. She’s a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 13. All this stress made her sit in front of a mirror for hours and do makeup, turning herself into different things. For her, it was not just applying eyeshadow and mascara, but creating entirely new ‘living’ characters. This escapism was an excellent stress buster that helped her channel her negative emotions.
Lex went on to get enrolled in Cosmetology, while in the school itself. She also obtained an additional license in Esthetics and fell in love with it immediately. To obtain licenses in both Cosmetology and Esthetics as a 19-year-old was quite a feat.
Today, this 26-year-old makeup artist works as a full-time body painter, a digital content creator, and an entrepreneur. Always wanting to share what she does, she created the Madeyewlook YouTube channel and MadeULook Facebook page. Her aim is to showcase her life through these channels and reveal her dreams of what she’d like to accomplish.
It isn’t surprising, Lex enjoys immense support from around the world for her makeup videos on social media. She has turned into a businesswoman and has her own cosmetic line. She has over 70,000 followers on Instagram alone.
