Artist Uses Mechanical And Electronic Parts To Create Amazing Works Of Art

Lex Talkington’s creations are something straight out of sci-fi movies. Made from mechanical and electronic waste, his mechanical robot-like sculptures inculcate modern technology. He’s one artist who has combined his training as a graphic designer and software engineer to create sculptures that are most awe-inspiring.

It comes as no surprise that Lex chose to pursue mechanical sculpting. Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, he spent years as a software engineer. On his website, he states, “I’ve always been fascinated by the construction of machines and electronics, both how they’re made and how different parts can work together as a single system, similar to living organisms. My work grows from that innate curiosity to deconstruct the constructed and re-purpose the parts into completely new experiences.”

What’s most surprising is Lex doesn’t really need any specialized materials for his creations, he uses found objects. Only he combines these with modern technology to create sculptures that he classifies as kinetic, static, functional and interactive. The end products are always most astonishing and sometimes surreal.

One look at his creations and one is dumbfounded to see all kinds of mechanical and electronic parts in use, which include wires, springs, keyboards, vintage cameras and the like. He also uses resin, acrylic, walnut, brass, plywood, and other such materials in his artwork.

According to Lex, his art is influenced by cubism, constructivism, science, technology, early 20th Century designs, and nature. He expresses it most elaborately by his detailed and meticulous arrangements and appealing aesthetics. The crowning glory of his collection is his Mechanical-Fossil series made from vintage electronics and vintage camera parts, cast in polyester resin.

Lex has participated in many exhibitions. His creations have garnered much interest on the internet and his fans await his new creations in excited anticipation.
