Dutch Fashion Trendsetting Speed Skater Sets the Track on Fire

Jutta Leerdam is a pretty face that can launch a thousand ships! But that is not all. She is a world speed skating champion, who specializes in sprint events. And she has won so many medals in various championships that she has lost count! This includes the silver medal she won in 1000 meters at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.

This 23-year-old speed skater from Denmark, who is termed the ‘Flying Dutchwoman’, was born to win. She became the world junior champion speed skater at the 2017 World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The very next year she came in second to her compatriot Joy Beune at the 2018 Championships in Salt Lake City, USA. She also became Dutch junior sprint champion at the ISU Junior World Cup competition. She turned professional and joined Team IKO.

As a child, Leerdam showed physical prowess in almost all physical sports that she participated in. Always determined to win, she found team events, not to her liking. She explains on olympics.com, “I played hockey for eight years. I enjoyed it, but I’ve never been a team player. I regularly had to sit on the reserve bench. The individual aspect of skating appeals to me.”

That is why this native of ‘s-Gravenzande, a town in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands, opted for individual events. And there has been no looking back for her. According to her, speed skating puts the spark back into her eyes. And her classic eye makeup of black eyeliner gives her the fiery look that has endeared millions of followers across the world on social media platforms. Today, she enjoys a following of over three million fans on Instagram alone!

Leerdam also boosts her popularity by inviting fans to witness her behind-the-scenes workouts and video snippets of her races. She is not only a champion sprinter but also a fashion trendsetter, with her eye-catching fashion trends. This speed skating diva, who is a marketing and commercial economics graduate, has made it a habit to always deliver on the track.

On the personal front, Leerdam is in a relationship with Dutch speed skater, Koen Verweij.
