Making Metal Sculptures From Scrap Metal And Machinery Is The Passion Of This Australian Sculptor

If you’ve seen the film series, Transformers, you’ll get an idea as to what Jordan Sprigg does with recycled metal. The only difference is his metal creations are merely sculptures and not robotic like in the Transformer series.

While growing up on a farm in Western Australia, Sprigg was always fond of collecting scrap metal and discarded machinery. Some of the pieces he collected were a century old. He started experimenting with metal scrap and would mold it in different shapes and forms as a hobby, while still in school.

Sprigg’s drawing skills and love for animals made him hit upon an idea of using metal for creating metal sculptures. Once he started it, there was no looking back for him. Today, he uses scrap metal and derelict machinery to create animals and objects that turn out to be metal masterpieces. Nothing is impossible for him and he has created some wonderful animals and objects that include horses, bulls, eagles, sharks, seahorses, dragonflies and much more.

Every piece of metal that Sprigg finds is dear to him, whether it is a spring, gear, bearing or even simple nuts and bolts. In fact, he uses any metal part or piece he can lay his hands on.

Sprigg’s job is not easy. He devotes hours in sculpting that involves welding to artistically join the pieces together. It’s thanks to his creative mind and painstaking work that he’s able to produce marvelous metal sculptures from scrap. He deliberately leaves the metal parts in the rusted state to highlight the age of the metal, as also to give his works an antique look.

Sprigg has his own website that proudly announces ‘Creating unique sculptures by bringing back to life historically worn and recycled metal’. It displays all his works that can be bought online. It comes as no surprise that the popularity of his works is steadily growing on the internet.
