You must’ve seen pixilated art in various forms, but Johan Karlgren, a Swedish conceptual and urban street artist, who also goes by the name of Pappas Pärlor, has stepped it up by turning pixilated art into interactive street art. By doing so, he aims to make his surroundings more fun.
Also known for his 8-bit styled pixel art creations, made out of Perler beads, Johan gets his inspiration from pop culture figures and old video games. However, it’s his wild imagination that puts him in a separate league of street artists. He makes efforts to find ways and means to express his art, which is only limited by his imagination.
Whether it’s fencing, traffic signs, pipes, sculptures, or any other object in public places, Johan’s pixilated characters have not left any conceivable place uninvaded in Sweden. Such is his power of visualization that he incorporates his art with everyday objects giving this delightful mix a whole new meaning.
Johan, who was born and raised in Sweden, started out by sharing his one-of-a-kind artworks on Instagram in April 2014 and since then there has been no looking back for him. Till date, he has garnered followership of over 114,000 fans, which is not surprising considering his beautiful and unique artworks.
The good news is you can own Johan’s pixilated artwork since he runs an online shop at pappasparlor.bigcartel.com. You can buy his full range of works of different original pieces. While most of his pieces are common objects that have been altered with his unique style, some are alterations of classic landscape portraits.
Johan has created pixilated portraits of celebrities and cultural icons, such as Donald Trump, Jack Nicholson, Samuel L Jackson and the like.
